Keeping your felines teeth clean.

Nine Years of Research by Feline Instincts

For nine years, Feline Instincts has fed our kitty Alex plain raw meats once a day in conjunction to his twice a day raw meals made with our premix My Natural Cat to see if his teeth would stay clean of any tartar and it worked….. and is still working.

I fed Alex a variety of plain raw meats; cut up chicken necks, chicken and beef strips. Packed a daily portion of them in snack bags and packed them in freezer storage bags to take out and defrost in the refrigerator often. I always made sure he had at least two snack bags thawed. He has not missed a day and wouldn’t let me if I tried!

Alex started this research for me when he was 8 months old. He is nine years old now and his teeth have no plaque. The vet is amazed. You should start your kitty when they are young enough or use enticements on the plain meats like liver powder or Nutritional yeast flakes when they are older and refuse to eat plain raw meats.

Declawing is Painful and Horrific!

Most people think that declawing is simply a clipping of the claws, but the reality is so much worse than that… it’s actually an amputation of the last digit of each “finger” on a cat’s paw! Some cats are so unlucky to be declawed on all four paws, but it’s more common for vets to do just the front paws. Yes VETS! These are the people who take an oath and solemnly swear to do no harm to an animal! And yet, especially in the U.S., this procedure is done routinely, along with spay/neuter ops, and the only real reason being so that cats do not scratch/destroy people’s furniture

Well, to the people who want pristine furniture, I say “DON’T HAVE A CAT THEN!”  How dare they maim their kitty’s paws so it then walks around on the amputated stumps and in pain for the rest of its life just because you don’t want your sofa scratched?!

Thank you Barberella for this most informative and visual post..

Holistic Vets That Accept Phone Consults

Brighthaven’s holistic no kill sanctuary list of holistic vets that do phone consults.

Highly Recommended Classical Veterinary Homeopaths (in alphabetical order)

Christine Barrett, DVM. 530 367 3672
Chris has been BrightHaven’s supervising veterinarian since 2005 and has been one of our prescribing vets since the early 90s. Chris has offered her heart and services for so many years to BrightHaven and the names of all the cats, dogs, birds and even toads she has treated far too numerous to mention but they all offer thanks in unison!

Chris earned her DVM degree from UC Davis in 1986. She went on to study homeopathy for animals with the father of animal homeopathy, Dr. Richard Pitcairn, and has been practicing classical veterinary homeopathy since 1995.
Chris has also participated in extensive further education programs and is one of the most competent and caring practitioners with whom we have had the pleasure of working.
Chris consults by telephone and email and is very available in emergency situations.

Diana Bochenski, DVM 805 688 2334
Diana has been with us also since the mid 90’s and worked with lots of our animals. She is wonderful!! Diana practices in both Northern California at The Buellton Veterinary Hospital and also from her home in Wyoming. She will consult both via telephone or email and is available for emergencies on her cell phone.

Jeff Levy DVM 413 268 3000
Possibly the most brilliant vet I have ever had the pleasure of knowing, since the early 90’s, Jeff is responsible for many of the BrightHaven miracles of healing. Jeff is only available for telephone consultation and only uses email/fax for documents required to be sent to him.
Homeovet.net

Adriana Sagrera DVM 504 834 2023
Adriana has been with us almost as long as Jeff Levy. She works by phone and also email and I try to give her the care of our older, debilitated animals as she has done wonders over the years for our records of health and longevity and somehow seems to hone in to the center of the problem. Adriana is available by day or night for emergencies on her cell phone too. She is my MUST for renal, thyroid, undiagnosed problems and geriatrics.

Michele Yasson DVM 845 338 3300
Michele has been helping BrightHaven cats and dogs for almost two decades with a huge rate of success. Kind and caring, Michele always gives her cell number to her clients for emergency use and is available for consultation via telephone.

The “Rolls Royce of Cat Food”

In his second year of vet school this nice man said our My Natural Cat product is “the Rolls Royce of cat foods” .

Hi Felice,
I just thought you’d like to hear this: I have a young neighbor who is in his second year of the graduate Veterinary program at Cornell. He’s been taking a nutrition course, and asked me about the food I’ve been feeding Red. I showed him your pamphlet, and after perusing it for a short while, he said “This is everything we’re being taught should be in a cat food. This seems like the Rolls Royce of cat foods!”.
I think Red and Smudge agree!

Fantastic Success Story

Hi Felice,

Just wanted to give you an update on my cat Milo’s health – after 10 years on your supplements for the raw diet.  I see his success story is still on your website when he was 2!  🙂

He was just at the vet, he’s 11yrs old now.  We never had him vaccinated and he’s never been outside, but when he started to drool, we took him to see a vet as we thought perhaps he had tooth issues.

He did have to have one tooth removed but the vet said he was the healthiest 11yr old cat he’s ever seen – muscular, his ears were clean, his teeth, he said, were the best he’s ever seen – there was tar on them but said some tar is normal but it was nothing compared to what he ususally sees in a cat that age.  He remarked on the softness of  his coat and after a solid check up, he declared he’s got a good strong heart and was healthy in every way.  He removed Milo’s problem tooth, but you wouldn’ve never known Milo had even been to the vet.  He was still spunky and playful as he normally. Still had a good appetite.

I must say, you and your product made a believer out of me – I said when I first put him on it (and I was skeptical!) that “time will tell”.  And time did indeed tell….he’s the picture of health 11years later!  THANK YOU!

Feline Liver Fluke Worm Is A Killer

Opisthorchis Felineus Infection in Cats. The cat liver fluke, also known as Opisthorchis felineus, is a trematode parasite that lives in water. It hitches a ride with an intermediate host, typically the land snail, which is then ingested by another intermediate host, such as the lizard and frog.

If left undiagnosed like it was in our beloved Caesar it will kill them. If he had been diagnosed from the start and the samples of worm I kept showing the vet here, he would have been able to live a much longer life. He was cheated of his life and so was I.

The incompetence of some allopathic vets is mind boggling to me! Get yourself educated…don’t think everything you hear from a vet is truth. They don’t know everything and many don’t think, let along think out of the box! They get complacent!

homemade raw meat diet

Liver Fluke Worms in cats will KILL them if left untreated! This is good reason not to feed your cat raw fish or lobster, keep them safe from eating lizards and frogs outside if you live in a tropical place like Florida, Hawaii and central America…

If your cat lives outside or in contact with frogs and lizards please read this. Many times a liver problem can go undiagnosed without knowing the cat has Liver Fluke Worms..

Liver flukes:

Opisthorchis felineus is a fluke which infects cats in much the same way as the other flukes listed above. Eggs in the water hatch into the miracidium form (free swimming) which infect passing snails. Once in the snail they undergo further developmental changes, leaving the snail as cercaria (a second free swimming larval stage) and infecting fish, frogs or lizards. Cats become infected when they eat an infected fish or reptile. Once inside the cat, the prey breaks down and the adult flukes pass through the stomach and to the bile duct and liver.

Low numbers may nor produce symptoms at all, however a heavy infestation may produce the following symptoms:

Enlarged liver
Jaundice (yellow gums)
Flukes can cause a blockage at the head of the pancreas resulting in exocrine pancreatic insufficiency which can produce greasy feces
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Weight loss
Lethargy

Diagnosis is made by examination of the feces for eggs as well as tissue and fluid samples from the liver.

Treatment is Praziquantel to kill the flukes and supportive care.

Opisthorchis felineus can be found in Florida, Hawaii, South America and parts of continental Europe.

IBD Success Story In More Ways Then One

This another happy success story that warmed my heart so much…lots of hugs to you and Abednego

Felice,

Hi! Thank you so much for taking 45 minutes out of your busy day to speak with me about the ins and outs of raw feeding and calming my frazzled nerves! I am so thankful to have found your product because my boy has IBD. He is 1 1/2 yrs. and has been so withdrawn and quiet the whole time we have had him. Little did I know that he was in pain this whole time. It just breaks my heart. Since we have switched Abednego to Feline Instincts he has started talking and playing with his toys, something he has rarely done in the 18 months he has been our boy. I have attached a picture of my boy Abednego – look how handsome he is with his Cornish Rex rippled fuzz! Please feel free to share this on your website!
